Out of This World
As you all will notice, I've added a new label to the side. It's called "Just Some Warm-Ups."
Under this category, I'm hoping to post writing exercises I have constructed in my spare time. Whether they will be exercises in poetry writing, fiction writing, or otherwise will vary.
Here's my version of an exercise that I've seen in a number of how-to-write-fiction books. I call it, the "Out of this world experience."
Out of This World Experience
Imagine a place you know nothing about. It can be a friend's house, a different city, state, province, country, or world. Write down the name of the place. Now imagine someone from that place, and be sure that you have a clear image of that person in your head. If you're writing about someone from a different planet, it might help to draw a picture before.
Got all that down? Good.
Now write a scene where that person from the foreign place comes to visit you at the place where you are the most comfortable. Write it from that person's perspective and imagine that person is carefully examining his or her surroundings. What will they see? Hear? Smell? Taste? Touch? This scene has to be over 250 words, but don't go over 350 words.

Trainer's Tips:
If you're having trouble reaching your word limit, try imagining what you would look at if you were in their position. Don't flip the exercise around and write what their normal world is like, though. The point of this exercise is to take a very normal location (for the writer) and describe it like someone who's never seen it would.
